Breakthrough in key detection technology for distribution transformers

Jibei Electric Power Research Institute has successfully conducted a sudden short circuit test on distribution transformers. This is the first time in China that an energy storage test power supply has been used for this test, and Jibei Electric Power Distribution Transformer's ability to detect short circuits has made new breakthroughs.

As an important testing item in the quality inspection of distribution transformer materials, sudden short circuit tests often use large impact generators or dedicated power lines of the power grid as the test power source. The test conditions are very strict, and it is difficult for provincial electric power research institutes to independently carry out this test. With the accelerating construction of distribution networks, the demand for quality inspection of distribution transformers entering the network is rapidly increasing. Provincial power companies urgently need to establish a complete quality inspection system for distribution transformers. In response to existing technical difficulties and quality inspection needs, Jibei Electric Power Research Institute has coordinated its own technical strength to form a research and development team, independently carried out key technology breakthroughs, fully researched the development status of this testing technology at home and abroad, developed a new energy storage test power supply based on power electronics technology, mastered the key technology of sudden short circuit testing for distribution transformers, and established a complete quality inspection system for distribution transformers.

It is reported that the new energy storage distribution transformer developed by Jibei Electric Power Research Institute can use its own energy storage system to provide test energy during the sudden short circuit test power supply working state, effectively isolate from the power grid, have many characteristics such as grid friendliness, small investment scale, high integration degree, intelligent and easy operation, and accurate output parameters. The small test site and power capacity can meet the test requirements, and successfully achieve vehicle mounted mobility function, which is convenient for flexible testing.

The success of this experiment marks that Jibei Electric Power Research Institute has become the first provincial-level electric power research institute with comprehensive quality testing capabilities for distribution transformers. Next, the project team will continue to improve the testing system and invite well-known experts in the industry to conduct technical evaluations, providing strong support for serving the State Grid system, the quality inspection of power materials in the northern Hebei region of the State Grid, and the safe and stable operation of the distribution network.
