The world's first 1100 kV high-voltage DC transformer helps build an intelligent green power grid for West East power transmission

Author:

For a long time, the western and northwestern regions of China have abundant energy resources. How to transport these power resources to other areas? Today, the reporter learned from ABB Transformer Co., Ltd. in Chongqing that the world's largest power high-voltage direct current transformer technology has made a new breakthrough in Chongqing: the world's first ± 1100 kV high-voltage direct current transmission project, Changji Guquan, has completed production and successfully passed tests. The first converter transformer will soon be put into use at ABB Transformer Co., Ltd. in Chongqing. Chongqing will serve as a production site for 1100 kV high-voltage direct current transformers, assisting in the construction of an intelligent green power grid for the West East power transmission.

This morning, the 20th anniversary celebration of Chongqing ABB Transformer Co., Ltd. officially kicked off. The reporter followed the relevant person in charge to visit the factory of Chongqing ABB Transformer Co., Ltd. located in Jiulongpo District. According to Zheng Hanping, General Manager of Chongqing ABB Transformer Co., Ltd., as one of ABB's largest transformer manufacturing bases in the world, the company has been focusing on the design and production of power transformers, reactors, and high-voltage direct current converter transformers. Recently, we successfully tested the world's largest 1100 kV high-voltage direct current transformer, including both high-end and low-end transformers. This is also the world's first 1100 kV high-voltage direct current transformer.

It is reported that the high-voltage direct current transformer will be applied in the Changji Guquan ± 1100 ultra-high voltage direct current transmission line, which is the world's first ± 1100 kV high-voltage direct current transmission line and has set new world records in voltage level, transmission capacity, and distance. The project line will transmit electricity from Xinjiang to Anhui, with a transmission power of 12 million kilowatts, equivalent to the power of 12 large power plants. Compared with the currently operational ± 800 kV high-voltage direct current transmission project, the transmission capacity has increased by 50%. The project has also increased the transmission distance from 2000 kilometers to over 3000 kilometers. After the project is put into operation, it will provide electricity to 8 500 kV and 2 1000 kV AC lines, delivering twice the annual electricity consumption of Switzerland. At the same time, this breakthrough technology also connects ± 1100 kV high-voltage direct current transmission lines to 750 kV AC lines for the first time. This technological breakthrough strongly supports long-distance, low loss, and large capacity power transmission, while also interconnecting DC and AC power grids, laying the foundation for future cross regional and cross national power grid interconnection. Fang Qin, President of ABB's Power Grid Division, said that this will also help build a stronger, smarter, and greener power grid.

In the future, ABB's power grid division will continue to promote localization strategies, develop and apply leading technologies in key areas such as renewable energy grid integration, grid automation, digital power grids, and microgrids, provide full value chain solutions covering power generation, transmission, distribution, and consumption, continuously help customers increase grid capacity, improve grid stability, improve energy efficiency, and reduce environmental impact, actively build future power grids, and support western development to move towards a new stage.

Is the transformer leaking oil? Don't panic, let's talk about what kind of oil it is first

Oil immersed transformers are inevitably prone to insulation oil leakage problems. Traditional transformer insulation oil is mineral oil, which is toxic and difficult to degrade. Once leaked, it can cause significant environmental and economic losses.
